 HOW TO CURE RINGWORM FAST

What Medicines Are Used to Treat Ringworm?

Depending on where the infection is on your body and how severe it is, you may require ringworm treatment. Many times, your doctor will prescribe a medication that you can get over-the-counter (OTC) from your neighborhood pharmacy. Some people require a prescription.

Ringworm Treatments available over-the-counter

Your doctor would probably recommend an OTC antifungal cream, lotion, or powder if indeed the infection is already on your skin, like in the case of jock itch or athlete's foot:

Clotrimazole (Lotrimin, Mycelex)

Miconazole (Aloe Vesta Antifungal, Azolen, Baza Antifungal, Carrington Antifungal, Critic Aid Clear, Cruex Instruction Strength, DermaFungal, Desenex, Fungoid Tincture, Micaderm, Micatin, Micro-Guard, Mirabel, Mitrazol, Podactin, Remedy Antifungal, Secura Antifungal)

  1. Terbinafine (Lamisil)
  2. Ketoconazole (Xolegel)

In order to ensure that the fungus which causes ringworm is killed, you often need to apply the medications to your skin for 2 to 4 weeks. Additionally, it will lessen your odds of it returning.

Prescription Ringworm Treatments

OTC medications might not be effective if you already have ringworm on your scalp or in numerous other locations on your body. You will receive a prescription from your doctor for an oral antifungal medication that you must take for one to three months.

The three oral medications for ringworm that doctors most frequently recommend are griseofulvin (Grifulvin V, Gris-PEG), terbinafine, and itraconazole.

Terbinafine. You will need to take these tablets once a day for 4 weeks if your doctor prescribes them to you. They typically function. Most side effects are minor and transient. They could consist of rashes, diarrhea, indigestion, and nausea. Whether you have lupus or liver illness, you won't be given a prescription for this.

Griseofulvin. This would need to be taken for eight to ten weeks. Additionally, it comes in spray form. Included in the side effects are indigestion, headaches, moderate diarrhea, nausea, & vomiting. You shouldn't use griseofulvin if you're breastfeeding, trying to get pregnant, or already pregnant because it can lead to birth abnormalities. For up to six months after stopping treatment, males must use condoms during sexual activity. Additionally, it can make birth control tablets ineffective. If you're taking it, use contraceptives or another method of birth control. Additionally, you shouldn't use a vehicle or consume alcohol while taking it.

Itraconazole. For seven or fifteen days, this is recommended as a pill. Children, the elderly, or people with serious liver disease shouldn't use it. You can have headaches, indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting when taking it. If your symptoms or illness don't get better when you've already finished your therapy, consult your doctor.

Home Ringworm Treatment

Even though ringworm must be treated with antifungal drugs, there are several things you may do to slow its spread:

Keep your hands sanitized. Wash your hands without touching anyone else and after touching your rash.

Wash your linens, towels, and clothing. Anything you touched or wore should be washed in hot water with laundry detergent.

Shower following a workout. If you participate in contact sports, this is extremely crucial.

Put on shower shoes. At the gym or the pool, keep your feet covered.

Check for fungal infections in your dog. You can contract an infection from dogs.
